Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented and compassionate Phlebotomist I to collect blood and other clinical specimens from patients while ensuring patient safety, specimen accuracy, and proper handling procedures. The ideal candidate should have good communication skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of standard phlebotomy techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection from patients.
  • Verify patient identification and ensure accurate specimen labeling.
  • Explain the blood collection procedure to patients and address their basic concerns.
  • Follow proper infection control, safety, and hygiene procedures.
  • Handle, store, and transport specimens according to laboratory requirements.
  • Prepare and organize collection equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate patient and specimen records.
  • Ensure specimens are collected in the correct tubes and quantities.
  • Monitor patients during and after blood collection for any adverse reactions.
  • Properly dispose of needles and other biohazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized phlebotomy area.
  • Report specimen collection issues, patient reactions, or labeling errors to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Follow laboratory policies, healthcare regulations, and standard operating procedures.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of venipuncture and blood collection procedures.
  • Understanding of basic medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interact professionally with patients of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of infection control and safety practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from a recognized organization is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a hospital, diagnostic laboratory, clinic, or blood collection center is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic medical records or laboratory information systems.
  • Current CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a plus.
