Job Description
Position Title: System Engineer Work Location: Santa Clara, CA 95050 Assignment Duration: 12 Months Work Arrangement: Onsite Position Summary: We are seeking a passionate Systems Engineer to join our Systems Development Group to support the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) products. The candidate is expected to be a hands-on key contributor in the feasibility, development, customer support, and integration phases of end-to-end NGS solutions. Background & Context: The Organization is developing new technologies to make genetic testing easy, reliable, and affordable, supporting applications including newborn screening, cancer diagnosis, and infectious disease detection. Key Responsibilities: • Become an expert on the operation of the Single Molecule Sequencing Platform. • Perform a variety of sample prep, library, or sequencing related experiments on a daily basis. • Analyze and interpret experimental data. • General support of research and development activities. • Customer support through monitoring runs, documenting defects, and following escalation paths. • Execute platform verification studies and interpret results. • Maintain best laboratory practices and organized documentation. • Assist engineers with hardware design through subcomponent testing. • Write SOPs and prepare technical reports. • Design and execute experiments independently. • Troubleshoot instrument failures and seek specialized support as needed. • Develop and deploy technologies including sample extraction, library prep, and sequencing. • Execute verification and validation test cases. • Support instrument fleet troubleshooting and customer support activities. • Perform system integration and performance verification through simulation and testing. • Drive product development with general management direction. • Communicate project status and critical findings to leadership. Qualification & Experience: • B.S., M.S., or PhD in science, chemistry, or engineering. • 1–5 years of experience depending on education level. • Previous laboratory experience required. • Hands-on DNA sequencing experience encouraged. • Hands-on PCR experience required. • Familiarity with MATLAB, GIT, Python, or similar tools. • Experience with prototype instruments desirable. • Strong written and oral communication skills. • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams. • Experience with statistical tools, DOE, ANOVA, SPC. • Experience with microfluidic or semiconductor-based sensing devices desirable. • Strong understanding of DNA and molecular biology. Additional Information: • Travel up to 10% to customer sites after initial period.
