Title:

Occupational Therapy Assistant


Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapy Assistant supports occupational therapists in providing rehabilitation services to patients recovering from injury, illness, or disability. The OTA helps patients improve daily living skills, mobility, and independence under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care & Therapy Implementation

  • Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans designed by the occupational therapist.
  • Provide therapeutic exercises, activities, and adaptive techniques to help patients regain function.
  • Monitor patient progress and report changes or concerns to the supervising occupational therapist.

2. Documentation & Recordkeeping

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records, including progress notes and treatment logs.
  • Document patient responses to therapy and any modifications to treatment plans.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy and regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA).

3. Equipment & Facility Management

  • Prepare and maintain therapy equipment and materials.
  • Ensure patient safety and proper use of adaptive devices and mobility aids.
  • Assist in setting up therapy areas for treatments and activities.

4. Patient Education & Support

  • Educate patients and caregivers on exercises, adaptive techniques, and home programs.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients during therapy sessions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.

5. Professional Development & Compliance

  • Participate in training, workshops, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Follow safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and institutional policies.
  • Adhere to occupational therapy standards and ethical practices.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education: Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant program from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Licensed or certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) as required by state regulations.
  • Experience: 0–2 years of experience in rehabilitation, healthcare, or clinical settings preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of occupational therapy techniques, exercises, and adaptive equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate, patient-focused, and attentive to individual needs.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
