Job Summary:
The Postpartum Registered Nurse provides comprehensive care to mothers and newborns during the postpartum period. This role focuses on promoting maternal and neonatal health, educating patients and families, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment for recovery after childbirth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for postpartum mothers and newborns.
- Monitor maternal vital signs, physical recovery, and emotional well-being, including signs of postpartum complications (e.g., hemorrhage, infection, mood disorders).
- Monitor and assess newborn health, including vital signs, feeding patterns, and growth parameters.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed, following hospital protocols.
- Provide patient and family education on postpartum care, breastfeeding, newborn care, contraception, and postpartum warning signs.
- Collaborate with physicians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care.
- Document nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
- Support pain management and comfort measures for postpartum patients.
- Facilitate patient discharge planning, ensuring that patients and families understand follow-up care instructions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide emotional support to patients and families, promoting a positive postpartum experience.
Qualifications:
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) acceptable.
- Prior experience in obstetrics, labor & delivery, or postpartum care preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and patient education skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
