Job Description
Job Summary:
The Dental Assistant supports dentists in clinical procedures, patient care, and administrative tasks. This role ensures efficient workflow in the dental office, maintains patient comfort, and adheres to infection control and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Assistance
- Assist the dentist during examinations, procedures, and surgeries.
- Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment.
- Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as needed.
- Mix, prepare, and pass dental materials for procedures.
2. Patient Care & Education
- Welcome and prepare patients for dental treatments.
- Provide patients with instructions on oral hygiene, post-procedure care, and preventive practices.
- Monitor patient comfort and assist in managing dental anxiety.
3. Administrative Support
- Schedule appointments and maintain patient records accurately.
- Assist in billing, insurance claims, and inventory management.
- Maintain compliance with privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
4. Infection Control & Safety
- Follow strict infection control protocols and sterilization procedures.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Maintain cleanliness of the dental operatory and work areas.
5. Team Collaboration
- Coordinate with dentists, hygienists, and other staff to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified Dental Assistant program preferred.
- Certification: Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience: 0–3 years in a dental clinic or office preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Knowledge of dental procedures, instruments, and radiography.
- Strong patient care, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with dental software and electronic health records (EHR) systems is a plus.
