Job Description

Job Summary:The Process Engineer (Petrochemical Industry) is responsible for developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting refinery and petrochemical production processes to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. This role supports daily operational needs, drives continuous improvement, evaluates process performance, and participates in major engineering projects involving distillation, cracking, reforming, hydrogen production, and other chemical conversion units.The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in chemical process engineering, experience with refinery/petrochemical systems, and the ability to solve complex production and safety challenges while maintaining regulatory and environmental compliance.Key Responsibilities:Operational Support & TroubleshootingProvide day-to-day technical support to operating units such as distillation columns, reactors, heat exchangers, compressors, and separation units.Investigate process upsets, equipment issues, and abnormal operating conditions to restore stability.Monitor unit performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend operational adjustments.Support turnaround activities, start-up/shutdown procedures, and emergency response when needed.Process Optimization & Performance ImprovementConduct process simulations and modeling (Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II, CHEMCAD) to evaluate improvements.Optimize energy usage, product yield, throughput, and catalyst performance.Lead projects to reduce emissions, enhance asset reliability, and lower operating costs.Perform heat and material balance calculations and develop mass flow diagrams.Projects, Design & Engineering SupportSupport debottlenecking, equipment modifications, and capital expansion projects.Develop P&IDs, PFDs, equipment sizing calculations, and technical specifications.Work with multidisciplinary teams (Mechanical, Instrumentation, EHS, Maintenance) to implement solutions.Participate in HAZOP, PHR, LOPA, and other safety reviews.Compliance, Safety & DocumentationEnsure compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.Prepare engineering reports, MOCs (Management of Change), and risk assessments.Maintain process documentation, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and standard operating conditions.Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.Continuous Improvement & InnovationIdentify opportunities for process automation, digital monitoring, and advanced analytics.Improve reliability of critical equipment through engineering analysis and predictive tools.Support long-term technology development and catalyst strategy discussions.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (Master’s preferred).2–6 years of experience as a Process Engineer in a petrochemical plant, refinery, or chemical manufacturing facility.Strong knowledge of chemical processes such as distillation, reforming, cracking, separation, and heat transfer.Proficiency in process simulation tools such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, PRO/II, or similar.Understanding of PSM (Process Safety Management), OSHA 1910.119, and environmental regulations.Strong ability to analyze data, solve problems, and work independently in fast-paced operations.Preferred Skills:Experience with DCS/PLC systems and plant real-time data systems (PI, Honeywell, Yokogawa).Experience supporting turnarounds, commissioning, and start-up operations.Six Sigma / Lean manufacturing experience.Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
